Laura Zaerr continues to pursue her interest in Celtic music alongside her classical music. She teaches harp and Celtic Ensemble at the University of Oregon, where she obtained her bachelors degree in music performance and composition. She also holds a masters degree in harp performance from the Eastman School of Music. Over the past 15 years Laura has produced several solo CDs featuring original compositions and arrangements of Celtic tunes as well as recording collaboratively with various musical groups, including The Oregon Renaissance Band, Village Green, and, most recently, Trilogy. She has gained national recognition for her Celtic Concerto, a suite for Celtic harp and orchestra, featuring seven traditional Irish tunes. Her original and innovative harp arrangements meld a rich heritage of classical technique with the buoyancy and charm of the Celtic style.

Laura Berryhill was initially captivated by Celtic music more than 20 years ago. Its compelling stories and sounds spoke to dancing feet, working hands, a lamenting heart, and was full of both wisecracks and wisdom. Trilogy’s “Far Morning” is the first CD to feature Laura’s vocals exclusively. A musician of “many hats,” she complements her work in Trilogy with roles as an early music singer and music historian, having recently completed a masters degree in musicology at the University of Oregon. She has also appeared in concert with new age artist Anton Mizerak, and is a backup singer on his release “When Angels Dream II.”She feels a deep sense of responsibility to the musics and languages in which she sings, whether English, Italian, or Gaelic, approaching the songs, their cultures, and their interpretations with respect and joy.

Laurie Goren’s early training in classical violin technique gave her the foundation from which to explore a wide variety of styles and genres. She performed in San Francisco for a number of years with the Rudy Cipolla Ensemble, playing turn-of-the-century European and Argentinean music. She is also a veteran of northern California’s original folk music trio Pangea and of New Age ensemble Electric Shakti. Now, in Trilogy, Laurie returns to the music of her Gaelic ancestry, bringing a sensitivity and warmth to her strong and playful fiddle style.

Trilogy began in 2003 as a collaboration between vocalist Laura Berryhill and Celtic harpist Laura Zaerr, after a visit to Oregon coast harpmaker John Westling convinced them that live music for the Celtic folk harp was too seldom reaching the ears of the coastal audience. While planning a coastal concert, Zaerr and Berryhill searched for a third musician to include in their lineup, and fiddler Laurie Goren was invited on board. The three soon found themselves in a long-distance working partnership punctuated by intense sessions of creativity. Shared enthusiasm for new horizons within traditional music and graciousness in their working relationship contribute to the free flow of ideas that characterizes the musicians’ collaboration. Trilogy arranges its unique combination of traditional songs and tunes and select newer favorites from Scotland, Ireland, and beyond to gain maximum impact and variety from its acoustic trio sound. August 2005 marked the release of the group’s first CD, “Far Morning.”
